Ronaldo sucks

the modern game has become all about pace, so once a player reaches 27/28 he starts to fade, lets see if kaka can regain some form and maintain it until he reaches 30, because dinho sure as hell won't.

Xavi not considered to be among the very best, is actually reaching his peaking at the right age, so are a few others like milito, amauri, eto'o, ext, but they are being overshowed by as you rightly/wrongly stated overhyped kids.

but if the likes of ronaldo haven't actually peaked yet then, footall will be even better in a few years time, because though they are somewhat over hyped they are still crazy good.

My point was more whether or not there has been a loss of talent.
I can't remember others then Kaka, Ronaldinho,Gerrard,Drogba,Ibrahimovic,???

They're being overshadowed because they simply weren't as good last season.

Around 2000-2001 there weren't a bunch of morons boiling over stats to determine superiority of players. Over the past few years, television and media circumscribed the aesthetics and instilled mainstream values. Pace is not necessarily an abuse of the sport, but there is a significant shortage of flair. Or, maybe because it's only just the beginning of next era...

Dude i wasn't even thinking about ronaldo when i wrote that, i was referring to SM point about players not reaching their peak at 27/28 anymore and merely pointing out the fact that these players have actually gotten better with age.

everyone with eye knows that last season belonged to ronaldo and everyone with a brain knows messi is better

Well I don't agree with this 'overhyped' kids comment. I just think that the younger players are better than their older counterparts.

I don't think its because of changes to the game either. I just think that there isn't as much talent in the 35-30 bracket as there is in the 20-25 bracket.

People like Nedved and Elber should be added in there along with Kluivert but the point is taken that there is a total lack of good players about now although that could also be combined with the fact there are alot more defensive teams now.

which is why i said rightly/wrongly overhyped, and that if they haven't peak yet then football will be a lot better in a few years, because the likes C.RONALDO is crazy good at 23.

I think its clear for everyone to see that there's been a bit of a gap between the players listed above and the new players coming through.

5 years of average talent.

Fast forward five years from now though and the 23 year olds will be in their peak and there will be some currently unknown players breaking through as the new hyped youngsters

Efficiency & athleticism dominates now, and the most important position has become the Defensive Midfielder.

Because of this, peak ages are now lower, 24-27, instead of 28-31, I doubt, you'll see players being able to survive at the top level playing into their late 30's/early 40's in 5 years time, like Donato did for Depor.

Classic no.10's will have to have one of size/strength/speed to be dominant again .

@ TS, perhaps - but in 2001/2 we didn't have the same access to players as we do these days. 10 live games a week, extended highlights, web streams so perhaps if we'd seen as little of the class of 2008 as we did of the class of 2001 we might hold them in higher regard.
