I'd love to see a proper explanation of how an additional 96m will be generated over a 3 year period (or however long he stays at Madrid) purely by adding Ronaldo and 40% of his image rights. You can even ignore his 10m a year salary in your calculations.

His residual value would not be zero unless he retires from the game (I wish that happens before the deal is done, TBH ), so the money need to be recuperated would be less than the full 96M (though there would be interest to be paid on the fund for 96M). Also the image rights retained by the club is 50% (unless Perez made exceptions to this transfer which is very unlikely).kas wrote:I'd love to see a proper explanation of how an additional 96m will be generated over a 3 year period (or however long he stays at Madrid) purely by adding Ronaldo and 40% of his image rights. The benefits I can think of are; marchandise (including but not only shirts), corporate hospitality take up, the next TV rights, friendlies abroad, etc., plus his image rights (sponsorship deal, media interviews, etc.).
Wining trophies (the CL) will bring in money, but addition of him would increase the chance that much (rather I would choose the likes of Ribery, Silva, Villa, Xabi Alonso for giving us more chances).
I don't know if that would be enough especially in view of the fact that some of the benefits are shared with Kaka (and others) who cost us 65M.

Manchester United have confirmed they have accepted a bid from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's future at United has been the subject of constant speculation with Real trailing his signature for the last three summers
Real president Florentino Perez has made no secret of the fact that he would like to lure Ronaldo to El Santiago Bernabeu.
Real have now agreed £80million offer for the Portuguese ace and United have given the World Player of the Year permission to talk to the Spanish titans.
Ronaldo will now head to the Spanish capital to hold discussions with Real and undergo a medical.
Real have already snapped up Brazilian superstar Kaka in a world-record deal, but a move for Ronaldo would eclipse that deal.
"Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," read a club statement.
"At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.
"Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice."

Stupidity to spend so much on a goal scoring wing-forward. We already have strikers for goals. We need players who could hold possession, and create chances. Sh!T

So in the end it is:
80 mil pounds for Greasy
58 mil pounds for iBelongToGeeze
Comparatively, do you think it's appropriate?

Of course not. One player excites with his elegance and the other just shoots on anything that moves. It is not even close.abundance wrote:So in the end it is:

BUT if I have to see it from Perez's view then he will milk this Ronaldo transfer for all it is worth and it will certainly make Real Madrid money as similar signings did in the past.
Christ what a sad day. I didn't want either player and now we have both.

Seriously though, what if he goes and scores a hattrick against Barca in the clasico next season? You know it could be worse.

Same old story for Madrid I feel. Superstars rather than a team. Having said that ronaldo is a fantastic player and he will make a difference there. Kaka too has lots of quality and may do better than ronaldo because I get the impression he doesn't like to be in the news too much. With Ronaldo you are getting all the media crap as well.

Precisely. We should have spent the 80m on the squad and signed him next year. *sigh*
