Apparently the Villa deal has been cancelled by Valencia...rumour that Barça bid for him last night. It's an odd one, because I can't really see us outbidding Madrid, or being able to offer someone like Negredo in exchange.

Madrid will now go for Forlan.

So who's going to be the one Spanish player they have to buy? Alonso?

I doubt very much that Perez will buy back the player whom we let go without buy-back option from our youth system when there are quite a few who are worthy of being bought back. The supporters would be happy to see Negredo and/or Granero bought back and kept on for the first team than Arbeloa.

Villa would be the most desireble for Perez's point of view with his position and profile, the second choice would be Alonso, failing that Silva somehow. Albiol wouldn't be a bad buy (provided that he is not too expensive), but not really good enough for the supporters. One new spanish signing wouldn't be enough for the promise of "Españolizacion" though, even though there are many Spanish players who can be at least as usefull as the bunch of dutch who occupy the squad list.

Well, supposedly the club made the offer of 25 million + Negredo and Valencia is asking for 30 million + Negredo. Florentino suspended negotiations after though I head in Spanish radio a few hours ago that Florentino will balk and give in to what Valencia asks. Then Villa could be signed by tomorrow.

Valdano came out earlier today and said that some of the signings have suffered some setbacks but they are still alive. I think the two sides are close and there will be a deal yet to be honest. There could be some haggling over whether to throw in Granero or maybe something to do with additional fees associated with objectives met.

The latest on Villa is that Madrid have offered 25m plus Negredo, while Barça are offering 35m cash. Valencia are holding out for 45m, which is what Chelsea are willing to pay.

Well now there's a story that Man. Utd. are going to bid 50m euros for him. It'll take some convincing from Ferguson to make Villa leave Spain though.

I'd love Villa. Would fit in very well. Man Utd did try and sign him i think 3 years back when his value was not so high infact he wasnt even at Valencia i believe. maybe 4 years ago.

He was at Zaragoza sp ?, didnt want to move outside of Spain than, cant see what has changed, specially with RM interested, just a rumour.

Yeh, the gap between the top two and the rest in terms of spending will be HUGE after this summer. I'd imagine that if you were to combine Real's and Barca's spending it would be quadruple that of all the other teams combined

Wait and watch...the likes of Sevilla, Villarreal, Atletico, maybe Valencia, and then the usual annual surprise package team, will all be pushing at least one of these 2 closely. That's how the Spanish league always is.

Well kas there is a point. No other team in Spain is spending it seems, let alone spending that much. This is not healthy for the league IMO. Very exciting in many respects (even for neutrals), but not healthy. Living in denial and saying stuff to make yourself feel better about the health of the league won't make it go away. I don't doubt that Sevilla, Villarreal etc. will have a competitive team, but we're talking about a massive disparity. Anyway, to be fair, your club has been sensible so far. As usual.

Unlike EPL, they had whopping three. Oh wait, isn't it supposed to be Big Four? Well, there definitely were only three.

Spurs and Citeh always seem to spend as much as the big four though

Real Madrid and Barcelona have always been spending quite a bit more then the others but the likes of Valencia/Deportivo managed to push the teams over several seasons. Even Real Sociedad raised their game one season against the best Real Madrid side I have seen and they probably should have won the league that season. I don't worry too much because both Barcelona and Real Madrid have inbuilt selfdestruction buttons.

No other team is spending yet. I suspect Atletico will end up spending a fair amount in the end. And Barcelona will spend money as well.

Sevilla and Villarreal probably won't spend a lot, but they never do.

The league champion has been a runaway winner the last two years and I think that is why people are starting to draw conclusions. I think it may be a little premature to do so.
