Madrid are getting the money for all this via 2 bank loans of around 75m euros each (at least, could be more...Jaime keeps telling us that La Caixa has also loaned them money)

The Spanish government have voiced their surprise about Real Madrid's huge loans from two banks at a time when the country's economy is in recession and smaller companies are unable to borrow money.

Finance Minister Elena Salgado expressed her concern that Caja Madrid had managed to lend €76.5 million to Los Merengues at such a delicate time.

Banco Santander have also agreed to loan Madrid a similar quantity and that is reported to have allowed the club to make their huge offers for Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It surprises me, and what I would ask banks is that: if they have liquidity, that they also make loans to small and medium-size companies and families," Salgado is quoted as saying by USA Today.

"I would ask that they make an effort for them."

The minister also put her message across without saying too much when she was asked for her thoughts on the €94 million outlay to sign Ronaldo from Manchester United.

"It goes beyond the dimensions of what I would have imagined," she added.

After ten years of boom time in Spain due mainly to the construction industry, there is now a recession and many banks are in trouble because of their exposure to the real estate sector.

Caja Madrid's annual profits fell by 71 per cent last year and that is one of the reasons why some people have raised their eyebrows at the agreement on Monday to lend Madrid the money.

Earlier in the week the rumours about Ribery were going strong but that story has cooled in the last day or two. Also still lots of rumours that a deal for X. Alonso and Arbeloa is in the works.

the two diarras could work, but they won't be keeping much possession, madrid will have to play a predominantly counter attack game, but those two would protect the defense wonderfully well and give the attacking players the freedom to attack.

I just feel that he will get a lot of pressure to maintain the balance in the middle, keep the ball and feed the forwards. He can't do that on his own. And he needs somebody to pair with him, and both Diarra's can't do that, at least not from what we have seen so far.

Im not interested in playing on the break or direct play. At least not as the foundations of the team. The team should be about keeping the ball.
It was possible to do it with side passers like Makelele-Flavio only because Zidane-Figo-Raul were excellent in keeping the ball.

They still have problems at fullback position, Ramos time and time again gets done by winger/wingforwards and they dont have a decent LB, and Ramos isnt likely to get much help from Ronaldo.

RC is 31 and becoming very injury prone, I'm one of RC biggest fans but if we were going to sign him it should have been the year he went to Chelsea.

Raul Albiol is a good purchase, he's a solid defender and still young so will have time to futher improve. Just out of curiosity how many Valencia games did you watch last season?

but ronaldo and kaka aren't great ball keepers, which is why i'm sure pellegrini hasn't had a say in their signings, they don't fit is philosophy at all, unless he is going to change his style of play completely.

What I think Alonso will be very good at doing for us (IF he comes, of course) will be to get the team moving forward. That is the problem with Gago and Lass playing together. They are both fairly competent at playing short passes to the side and backwards but when it's time to go forward Lass lacks the vision and Gago lacks the accuracy to make the pass from the middle third into the final third. Alonso can do this. Once we get into the final third then Kaka will be there to play the final ball to the forwards. At least that is how I see it happening.

Quite a decent amount, how many games do you need to watch to form an opinion ?
He is a decent defender but that is it for me, he may improve who knows but for me he isnt what I would class among top level defenders out there.

For me, you are expecting too much from Alonso Jaime.

Says the geezer whose club paid 17m euro for Martin f*cking Caceres last year. Albiol is still learning but he still the best young centre back in the country. He struggled last year because he was playing with the likes of Helguera, Maduro, and Marchena (who I don't rate). He's good in the air, a good man marker, good playing the ball from the back and not great pace but not slow like Pique either.
