He came last January on a 6 month loan with an option to buy. But no, he made almost no impact on Castilla. He made one forgettable appearance with the first team as well. Seen an article on him saying that the club was intending to ease him in slowly and that's why he was used sparingly even in Castilla. He is looking like the real deal in preseason. Look at this assist he gave to Ronaldo against Inter.

Khedira could not make a pass like this in his dreams!!!!

Yet another player Inter tried hard to sign but failed.... the list is ever increasing... Casemiro, Lucas, Paulinho... Nainggolan?

Apparently Sao Paulo rejected several bids in the range of 15m euro last summer but then the player kind of fell of the wagon, had some problems with a poor attitude and poor training, I think I read he was even sent away from the team for a while. In any case, he basically was never going to play for them again so that is why they were trying to get anything they could to send the player away. He came on loan and we got a real steal on the option to buy. He's been on his best behavior so far. Long may it continue!

Interesting article out of AS claiming some of what we suspected regarding Benzema, the theory that he plays better when he has the full confidence of the manager and is not competing with another player for the starting job.

    http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2013/08/13/primera/1376357312_473922.html

The evidence? In 2012/13 he started 19 league games and scored 11 goals. But the season before in 2011/12 (the year Higuain was out injured for most of the year) he started 26 and scored 21. Would be interesting to see the comparisons for the previous two years as well when he scored only 15 and 8 goals respectively. I feel like he was mostly starting in the year with Pellegrini. Maybe not in Jose's first year. I can't remember.

Just found the stats on Marca.

So in 2009/10 under Pellegrini he only started 14 league games and made 13 appearances as a sub and scored a total of 8 goals.

Then in 2010/11 in Jose's first year he started 20 league games and was a substitute on 13 occasions and he scored 15 goals.

Maybe there is something to the theory. What does everyone think?

Now rumours leaking that a lot of the players - Benzema, Ozil, and Di Maria in particular - are very angry with all of the Bale rumours. In the first place they don't like the cost of the transfer and they don't like that he will automatically become the second highest player (if the rumours are true) in the squad after Ronaldo. Of course for Di Maria and Ozil too it is not hard to imagine that their playing time will be greatly affected by Bale's arrival.

I really hope this does not happen.

According to The Sun, Bale supposedly told his team mates that he'll "never wear a Spurs shirt again" and is very angry that the club won't accept the huge bid Madrid have supposedly made for him.

Bale: I’ll never play again for Spurs

GARETH BALE has told Wales team-mates: “ I ’ ll not wear a Spurs shirt again. ”

According to Frederic Hermel (France Football and L'Equipe correspondent in Spain) Lewandowski and his agents want to cancel their pre-agreement with Bayern, as Lewandowski sees that he wouldn't fit in Guardiola plans. Real is supposedly a new target.

He thinks he's got all kinds of skills, drops deep to get involved in the buildup etc, but that leaves no-one up front to actually stick the ball in the net. If you have a job to do for the team then do that job, don't do what you like to do because that isn't necessarily what is best for the team. There should be internal competition for places as that makes players work harder, if as a result they sulk etc then get rid of them as they are mentally weak, spoilt c**ts. Strikers don't necessarily have to score as long as they do the job the manager tells them to do and the team wins.

Benzema reminds me a bit of silky version of rooney. Rooney gets dropped by Ferguson because he doesn't follow instructions I reckon, so he wants to leave, he behaves the same way for England he doesn't get dropped but England suffer for it. Ferguson was right, hodgson is wrong.

I would imagine to play as more of a traditional striker, like RVP does.

Edit; And Levy would be stupid to sell Bale to Man Utd.

    <Ale>

Welbeck was on the left and Walcott on the right with rooney as the "lone striker". What rooney should have been doing was what he did when he scored and was incorrectly rule offside. Most of his game was spent running backwards to the midfield to pick the ball off them and try to create something. They had 3 fairly attacking midfielders to do that already, but no-one up front to actually pass it to since rooney wasn't there. Even if rooney's best role is as an a support striker, that wasn't his job yesterday. So I am saying he doesn't do his job according to his manager, he does what he thinks he should be doing. If he scores and the team wins no-one minds but the manager notices that someone doesn't follow his instructions, so when it comes to crunch games (e.g. Cl knockout against a better team) then a manager may go with players that follow instructions, e.g. Welbeck, rather than Rooney:

It was a problem for Englannd against Italy IIRC. Hart got annoyed at Rooney for not bothering to pick up Pirlo.

It''s exacerbated by the problem that for the last few years, Rooney's playmaking abilities have been average at best. He drops deep, and plays a 20 yard pass to the wings. People lap it up, but Lampard can make that pass. It's not worth Rooney cluttering up the midfield to make plays like that.

I think this is pretty much the consensus of everyone here on the board as it relates to Benzema. He actually does have all kind of skills but it doesnt really matter because he behaves like sulking coward most of the time. Probably make or  break season for him. He will have no excuses not to perform.

    ok
I can't believe that somebody at a top club doesn't want to have competition. And what is worse is that we are actually giving into this and arranging our team around Benzema's mental weakness. We should have gone for Cavani and be done with it. I like Benzema so I hope delivers the goods this season because imo we have gambled on Benzema and he has done little to deserve this. Zidane will have to pay for this if it goes wrong.

Yeah, it's English gutter press, but if there's even an ounce of truth in it, Özil should accept and leave ASAP.
