Given he inherited a side that was qualifying for the CL and then spent a fair amount of money on players, keeping Newcastle up was hardly an achievement.

It has to be foreign surely if it isn't Curbishley. The only other british manager on there who would be an improvement on pardew would be Redknapp, and considering the funds Portsmouth have I can't see him leaving.

Yes, but who can they atract in January, realistically speaking? West Ham are in for a relegation fight, and that's not a fight I'd choose to be in with SGE. SGE only "makes sense" for a semi-established team with a rich owner. Not a team who can't atract shit in January and needs to stay up. It would make more sense to get Sven in the summer, should they stay up.

I don't think the hammers will relegate, Charlton and Watford will, and they have to battle it out for the final relegation place with the Blades. West Ham have by far the better players - some with actual international class. Not forgetting Newcastle, who can self combust any moment Martins gets an injury.

Im not saying they should/will get Sven...but I don't think him being a chequebook manager will be the problem. Portsmouth managed to get some decent players in last season with the money they got...and a coupel on loan.

I can't remember who Harry brought with him, but Lualua was one of the bigger-best names if I'm correct.
West Ham should poach Hasselbaink/Bent from Charlton in January. Charlton hasn't got a prayer and they know it.

What West Ham needs is a motivator with some tactical/man-mangement sense - even if its only for 6 months. Redknapp would have been perfect, but there's no-one else I can think of.

I think there may have been more. Portsmouth were the 1st team to be bottom of the league at Xmas, and beat the drop in the EPL era. Boothroyd can do the same with Watford - I'm sure of it.
